I'm a African American, and there is no way or no reason I will ever use that word.

I agreed with Elizbleth Hasselback, ( I can't believe I'm saying that) I only watch the "The View" to see what dumb things are going to come out of their mouths. They never disappoint me. I missed this show. Whoopi thinks African American own that word and it's okay for us to use it. She crazy. Sherri Shephard is so dumb, she don't think at all, she just open her mouth and talk. She say her family use it to show term of endearment. I guess she teaching her son when to use it and when not to use it. How dumb is that. I don't know what Barbara Walters was thinking went she put those two dumb women on the show. They just make African American women look so dumb over and over and over.

That word shows hate and no respect for the person you are saying it to. Nobody should ever have a reason to use it, I don't care what color you are or how old you are. It's no way it could ever show love or respect, only hate and disrespect.

As for the Rev. Jesse Jackson I could write two books on how I dislike him and don't respect him. All I can say is he don't speak for me, and he don't show any respect for himself or African American people.

Happy 1st Anniversary on the Blog.

The 1974 ( 34 years ago!) "estimate" - and that is all it was - that we could save 167,000 barrels of oil a day by dropping the speed limit to 55 mph and thus save GAS consumption does not hold true today. What about the multi-millions of trucks that use DIESEL? That was never considered in the estimates. Going slower increased fuel use.

Since then, especially in the past 5-10 years, cars have been built so that their computers and transmissions are tuned for a 60-65 mph "sweet spot" where fuel use is at its most efficient!

Since 1974 diesel engine technology has advanced so that trucks are designed, spec'ed, and built so that the optimum use of fuel is at 65+mph - any slower or faster and fuel economy goes down. When these big rigs only get 5.5 - 6.5 mpg average, any change is extremely significant! Figure out how much fuel they use in a weeks distance of 2000 to 3000 miles each.
Truckers are already suffering more than anyone else in this country from fuel costs increases! 55 pmh will hit them in another way - they are restricted by hours of service regulations that limit the number of hours that can be driven in a day. Lower the speed limit to 55 and a trucker can't get to where he has to be in one day. Now he has layover costs, and will be limitted in the number of loads he can do in a week, thus limiting his income even more. Freight shipments will suffer timewise. The Energy Secretary and Senator Warner (as well as the rest of Congress and the American public) need to become informed of this centurys technology, and consider all of the repercussions there would be if the speed limit is lowered. I am afraid if they don't Congress will go along with the unenlightened idea that 55 mph will save oil and create more garbage legislation with bad consequences. Then they will all pat each other on the back over what a great job they did.
