It seems that the last few months, it has been very hard to have our family members spread around the country. Several family members have been having severe health problems that have required hospitalization.
We are a close loving family and we are large. The problem is when everyone lives so far apart it is impossible to “be there for each other” in a way that feels like you can actually help out.
My aunt was in the hospital this last week with blockages…today her son is in Ohio with chest pains and needs to be flown to a large heart center in Toledo and cant fly because the weather is making it impossible to fly because of sleet. He is in a small hospital that cant even do a catherization procedure to see exactly what the problem is that is showing up on an EKG.
It is hard to feel so helpless. There is something to be said of the good old days when everyone grew up around each other and worked and lived in the same area for most of their lives. Support is so much easier to give when you have the ability to just travel a short distance to be “on call” for those you love. Prayer becomes so much more important than ever to get the help you need for each other.
Still, distance aside, we are lucky and blessed to have family that loves and supports. It isn’t something that we take for granted.
