Happy Birthday Jesus! Happy Birthday to you the reader if it is your birthday also. I have a cousin who was born on Christmas day. How special it must be to share your birthday with Jesus; to have the whole world celebrating on your big day.
I imagine any mother laboring to bring a child into the world on Christmas must put herself in Mary’s (the mother of God) place. She was so young. She had to be frightened. She was away from her mother in a place where she knew noone.
She had no comfortable place to bring her baby into the world. It was a stable. There was no doctor, no nurse, no sterile hospital room, no pain medication and she had no adult woman with her to ease her fears.
But still, Mary (as well as Joseph) knew that this babe was special. They knew that the son of God was going to be born. They knew they were chosen to raise this child. They knew that God would be there always…guiding and protecting.
Talk about expectations. How intimidating it would be to know that you were supposed to bring up the child of God. No pressure there :). I am so thankful that they followed through. They did things right in the eyes of God and because they did…we all have the hope of eternal life if we accept Jesus as the Lord and Savior of our lives.
This in no way means that we are perfect or that we don’t make mistakes. I imagine that Joseph and Mary also made mistakes. But that is what being a Christian is all about; forgiveness and love, understanding.
So, again…Happy Birthday Jesus! Let us celebrate your birth. Heaven is rejoicing and here on earth we will honor you this day as well.
