Archive for January, 2008

The last day of January 2008 and the news reports today, that a Dutch, crime investigative, reporter feels he has new information that helps to solve the mystery of what happened to Natalee Halloway back in May of 2005.  She was a young woman away with her school on a spring break vacation when she disappeared under questionable circumstances; many believing her dead all this time.

Prosecuters in Aruba, a Dutch caribbean island are investigating this new information.  It has been said that the new information may help to explain how Natalee died; and, how her body became missing.

I think everyone has pretty much accepted that she is no longer alive…however, the need to know what happened can only be a balm to her family and friends after all of this time.

There have been suspects picked up and held for questioning over and over again;they denied involvement.   There did not appear to be enough evidence to convict them previously… and one has to wonder, whether that will soon change.        *** See previous post Dec 18, 2007

Ok, i have been awake less than 15 minutes and I am hearing the news (good, I believe) that Britney Spears has been admitted again for a mental health evaluation in California.

I hope i do not hear in the headlines the stupid line, Oops, she did it again.  I know some media will make terrible headlines.  This is serious people…she is in terrible need.   You know what…we have all been observing a young woman who has been drowning.  It is almost like everyone is standing around saying, i wonder who is going to jump in and save her.  While we all wait….she has been going underwater not knowing if she will come back up.

Even though she needs help badly, it is still a tragedy that she has to be admitted anywhere “again”.  Why wasn’t she kept in the hospital the last time?  When the last incident happened the media proclaimed that it was a typical California 72-hour watch.  She was released in a day and a half.  Who made that decision?

I am sure, for her parents or whoever made the decision to make the call this time, for another evaluation it had to have been a hard decision.  How could they not wonder…will she get healthy, will she hate us forever, will she once again cut us out of her life?  These are hard thoughts that thousands of people, everyday, deal with in their own families when a loved one has a mental illness.

So, people, dont make jokes, don’t make light of her situation.  I think most people are realizing that this isn’t something to make jokes about at Britney’s expense; but at the same time….there are people who will try to make a profit off of selling pictures of her or something.

It is hard to value yourself emotionally when everywhere she looks…someone wants to get something from her.  I am sure that and the constant hangers on in her life have only added to her illness …whatever that may be.  And no, none of us have a right to know what that illness is…unless, She, the patient wants people to know once she has time to heal and mend.

Let us not forget…there are two young children growing up in the middle of this legal and emotional spotlight.  They will live with the reminders of mom and her “breakdowns” just like a very famous Hollywood woman named Marilyn Monroe or Norma Jean, if you will.

Times have come a long way since those days in the treatment of mental health…but, the stigma of mental health is no better now than it was then.  May God grant healing for all those touched by mental health illnesses.

It was announced today, that Marie Osmond will be doing a new talk show.  She said that she would like it to be for women.  I think she stated that she wanted it to revolve around women and women’s issues; presented in a way, as if girlfriends were talking.

I think that she will do a great job at that kind of a program.  I am glad that it will show case Marie.  She has been though alot in the last few years and i think that she could contribute alot to some of those issues by speaking from her experiences.  As long as Marie doesn’t fall too often into her defense mechanism of distracting by being at times a class clown…even though i do love her sense of humor.  There are times when it takes away from important things.

She has gone through post partum depression, loss of parents, a divorce, having a child enter a rehab, she’s gone though personal tragedy of a fire in her home and the list goes on.  She is an adoptive parent and a birth parent.  These are issues that affect alot of her potential viewership.

There was no mention of which network would be carrying the program.  I hope it is ABC.

I am going to be a two fisted blogger…working on two blogs at once.  The second blog will not be added to daily simply because of the type of blog it is.  It’s  a blog of book reviews.

Now, I am an avid reader.  My husband would probably call it an obsession…but i love to read.  So, as fast as my brain can consume and process a book…i will attempt to post my recommendations.

This blog is going to be called:  www.bookinreview.com/blog/.  The blog has just begun…but it will be my goal to recommend children’s books, adult books, teen books, as well tweener books.  It is not my intention to post negative comments about books…so, i think i will solely focus on books that i could recommend to a friend or family member.  This is purely for fun.

I am hoping you will check out the new blog and see if it is something that will be a benefit to anyone.

Eventually, it would be awesome to post author interviews.  I think to those who love reading…there is a real interest in the way writers come up with ideas and how they go about turning their ideas into books that people want to read.

Check out the new blog at: www.bookinreview.com/blog/.

Wow, all i can say is TGIF…thank God it’s Friday.  This week has been long, drawn out, stressful and then again at the same time, it has been encouraging as well.  God answered an urgent prayer in an amazing way.

The situation i referred to earlier in the week about saying a sad goodbye to a young member of our youth group was worked out for the good by none other than God in heaven above.

It was resolved in a way that none of us were able to foresee and the young man will be able to stay in the area and finish school, maintain his relationships and continue to grow as a young Christian.  This is not to mention the potential dangerous situation that God rescued him from!  God is good…and now the young man has an opportunity to see that he is valuable to God and to others that care for him; he hasn’t had much of that in his young life.         UFO enthusiasts are saying that the military’s previous denial about having fighter planes in the area of Stephenville, Texas on January 8, 2008, is now a confirmation that something unidentified really was in the area, now that they have retracted that statement.

Yesterday, officials from Ft. Worth’s Naval Station said that 10  F-16’s were in that area doing training on that day.  Previously, Maj. Karl Lewis said that what people saw must have been an illusion caused by the sun reflecting off of two commercial planes.  He says now that he should not have speculated about what it could have been.       Sad goodbyes are never easy.  Tonight, our youth group will be saying goodbye to one of it’s members.  This will change the whole dynamics of the group as the person leaving is connected, in many ways, to a majority of the members of the group.

There is a friendship component, a romantic component, a mentoring component, a sibling component as well as a spiritual component that will suffer the loss.

Ahh…the story of star crossed lovers…a young man and a young woman…madly in love against all odds.  Their love was in spite of the protests of their families and faced certain destruction.  So romantic don’t ya think?  It is a classic story read by almost every high school and college literature class available.  So, if we were to imagine a young couple in the same type of situation in today’s world…what would it look like?

In my mind’s eye, it would somewhat resemble the young michigan couple who recently made news headlines by confiscating the young man’s family minivan, taking approximately $680.00 and the family dog.  (more…)

I am mad!  Maybe more than a little, in fact.  I read an article on the net that concerns a review on studies of binge drinking.  The article does not have a byline.    A reader reading this article,  does not know who wrote the article; and that is a shame, because it perpetuates a damaging myth!  It would be nice to know who wrote it, because then they could be educated.

It states that people know drinking a large amount of alcohol often, during pregnancy, is known to cause health problems and learning disabilities for the child.

However, it also says that the review doesn’t clearly show that occasional, binge drinking while pregnant is problematic.  It says that more studies are needed!  Please!!!

Later in the article, it says something to the effect that, until we have more scientific “proof”, women who occasionally binge drink while pregnant should not worry over much.  That is CRAZY TALK!   See this:  http://www.nofas.org/. (more…)
