There is so much in the news about being responsible and going green in your lifestyle. I am all for it. I try to do the things that i can do…and i think about new ways to go green that i can do down the road. The hard part is that many of the big ways to go green are so very expensive.
I would love to go solar, heat with geo thermal heating and cooling, use eco friendly products when remodeling or building, buy hybrid vehicles, and use windpower to help reduce the strain on our planet. Those kinds of lifestyle change are extremely costly for the average person.
Yet, there are smaller, affordable ways to reduce, reuse and recycle. Changing lightbulbs to the new ones which use less energy helps a great deal. Turning down the thermostat on the heating system, turning it up for the cooling system, purchasing renewable energy sources, drive less; walk more, share rides, ride a bike, roller skate or take public transportation, planting trees are all good ways to improve the planet. If you stop and think about it…there really are things that we all can do. It is for our own good.
With the costs of gas and oil as well as the strain on our energy supplies it only makes sense to be a good steward. I wish that those that could afford it would help to find ways to subsidize these major lifestyle changes for those who cant afford to do it on their own. If we all educate ourselves and make informed decisions about the way we live it can really impact the world in a positive way.
