Remember when you got a snow day off from school or you had only a half day; how it made you feel? It was always special to have part of the day to feel like you were playing hooky or something right?
Now, kids get so many half days and early release days…it is almost old hat. On the other hand, they are only allowed 1 (can you believe it), 1 snow day each winter. Other schools around us take more than that…but then they have to go longer into June before their school year is done.
We always had huge amounts of snow growing up and (yes, it seems like weather patterns are so weird these days). I remember snow being plowed into huge piles along side of the road…some of them higher than the top of our school bus. Certainly, we don’t get and retain snow like that around here anymore. We get large amounts…but then something always happens for it to melt and then we get hit again.
Today, my kids have a half of a day off from school. No big deal for them…pain in the tush for me…take them to school and 2 1/2 hours later…go pick them up again 🙂 Oh well, sometimes you wonder if it is even worth getting up for. Of course, my younger daughter begged to stay home.
Temptation, i almost let her since it was only a half a day and the bitter cold, that has been described as The Siberian Express, has arrived. The sun is shinning but it’s looks are deceiving for sure! Glad it is the weekend and i can curl up and hibernate till church on sunday! Yeah for me.
