Once again we are experiencing winter at it’s less than stellar approach. Here in michigan, when it gets like severe snowing and blowing with wind chills in the -minus category…it is a little hard to recommend!
Myself, other than a nice showing of big fluffy flakes on Christmas Eve; i could live without winter. For one thing, it is COLD. For another, it cost so much to live in an area where it costs an arm and a leg just to keep from freezing to death. We spend over $700.00 unbelievable dollars every six weeks on propane to heat the house. That is just insane, don’t ya know?
But, this weekend…with the temperatures plummeting, winds winding up to put on a showy, snowy display; I am going to nestle in with the family. We will only get out to go to church on sunday (why is it, may i ask, that sundays are always the worst weatherwise????????) Hmm…back to my whinning……
We will curl up and nest with the children…bake to bump up the house temperatures…eat too much out of boredom….read to my hearts content…play games….drink hot chocolate and check up on loved ones by phone to make sure they are safe (actually made sure my parents are all set with wood for the woodstove and all).
It is always in the back of my mind to avoid watching the news…because every winter when it gets this bad out….there are always reports of people freezing to death. It is usually elderly folks or young families with small children. Those very people who can least afford to heat their homes.
Also, the news is full of fires of people trying to stay warm in any way they can. So…not only that; but, there are those who have heating systems in need of repair, so there is the inevitable deaths from carbon monoxide.
It can be grim…but there is the power of prayer..and i pray that this year is different and that everyone stays safe. We have four days of this extreme cold…and then it will just go back to being normally cold. Ahh…much better!!! LOL
