Wow! Can I just tell you what a joy it was to read, Man Shoes-The Journey To Becoming A Better Man, Husband & Father? It is my privilege to review this book; I believe that the author, Tom Watson, has some real valuable wisdom to offer his readers. Tom was born to parents ill prepared to raise a child in a healthy & life affirming way. He was placed into 13 different foster homes…some of which were little more than a systemic form of a physical & psychological torture chamber.
Tom was placed into foster care because his Aunt Donna & Uncle Roy found the courage to report the erratic parental care that infant Tom was experiencing. His parents would drop him off here and there and neglect to pick him up at the times that they agreed to. At one year of age, he became a foster child because his aunt and uncle found the strength of character to endure family censure by reporting the situation to the proper authorities. Tom expresses his gratefulness to them for doing so…even though he suffered greatly in multiple foster homes until he came to the place where his body and soul were nurtured. His life story actually proceeds with joy and gratefulness. To read the rest of this review go to: Book In Review

It is interesting to contemplate some of the facets of a man who was such a controversial figure in American culture. Jack Kevorkian was known at one time in the media as Dr. Death because of his involvement in assisting individuals with taking their lives…this was titled assisted suicide. Today, Jack Kevorkian died after a two week hospitalization for pneumonia. He is believed to have died from a blood clot but they will know more later. He struggled with the pneumonia and kidney complications during the hospitalization from media reports.
A lot has been said about Jack Kevorkian in the media over the years. To continue: Write Where You Are

Ficklets Eyeglass Charms Are Fun Eyewear
Let’s be honest, most children who are told that they must wear glasses will often not be thrilled with the idea of having to wear eyeglasses. For many children, it is the idea that others will make fun of them or, cause them to be viewed as being different from other children their own age. Being bullied because you are visually impaired and have to wear glasses can cause a child to refuse to wear them, out of fear of being made fun of.
No one want to be made to feel self conscious about themselves, especially at certain ages when it is most important to fit in with their peers. We’ve come along way since the days of having a choice between wearing heavy black plastic frames or wire frames that were basically your only choices.
Still, everyone likes to look their best and there are many fashion frames from which someone can choose to fit the shape of their face and their sense of style. On the other hand, if you are looking to change things up so that you don’t get bored with a certain look once you’ve purchased your eyeglass frames; there wasn’t much you could do except buy multiple sets of glasses…until now. Unless you deliberately try to avoid the news regarding people in the media, you have surely heard the tragic tale of actor Charlie Sheen and the downward spiral that he has been on with regards to his public displays of out of control, alleged drug use, partying, and seemingly non-sensical interviews that have Charlie Sheen appearing to bite the hand that feeds him. There have been news stories about porn stars, domestic violence, alleged drug use, drug rehab, custody issues, contract negotiations, not to mention, a forced hiatus from his television show and disgruntled co-workers.
That show, called Two and a Half Men, has stopped production on their show for the rest of the season; since Charlie has made a public statement on interviews that disparages the producers of the show, television show creator Chuck Lorre, Alcoholic Anonymous, his ex wife, and women in general. He says horribly vile things about Chuck Lorre and shows nothing but contempt for women, in my opinion, when he says things about women such as he has fame and those women have nothing and that all they will ever have is that night with him and that he will forget about them as soon as they leave. He says that he is “special” and will never be one of the AA because they are a “bootleg cult”. Seriously? Continue reading here: Write Where You Are

People do many things, for the love of God. There are those who feel that they have a specific calling in their lives to live and accomplish a great mission, or purpose. I’d like to underscore that by saying that we each have been born to praise God; and, to do the great commission which is; to bring the “good news” of Jesus, God’s son, to those who do not know him so that they may have an opportunity to accept him as Lord and Savior of their lives. By doing so, and repenting of their sins…committing their days and nights to living according to the word of God and it’s instructions; they will be used by God to accomplish many things in their lifetime.
I believe that just being aware of the world around you and noticing where the acceptance of God is lacking and doing your best to be of service in some way; of bringing a light or help to those who are in need, is a ministry itself. Some have a pull on their hearts to teach, preach, do missions work, or evangelize. There are others who are drawn to a particular effort of outreach which may be to take Bibles into areas of the world which have little or no access to the word. Then again, there are those with an online ministry to edify or build up disciples such as the Live Sticky movement which encourages people to spend a portion of their online time being dedicated to bringing awareness of God to those that they impact. These are all ministries that are needed. To continue reading click here: Write Where You Are

It is sad but true, bath salts have a genuine use for the body interested in health and wellness; but, bath salts are now being misused as a drug to achieve some sort of a high. Bath salts are generally used as a body soak and exfoliant. When used in this way, true bath salts (typically epsom salts mixed with fragrance beads and water softening agents) are a balm to achy muscles and dry skin. These are not dangerous!
However, there are products being labeled as “bath salts” that are powders packed in small tea bag sized envelopes and advertised as legal substitutions; merely to make money. They are being sold on the shelves of convience stores, truck stops and head shops all around the country; as well as online. They are marketed as bath salts, when those who produce these products know full well that they are not being used for that purpose.
Those who produce, market or sell these items should be held accountable for those who have had their lives destroyed by their products. Their intended use is for individuals who are looking for a drug induced high. Business selling them should be forced to removed them from their stores in my opinion. In fact, some states & communities are banning their sales…but, we need to increase awareness of this issue; before the use of these products becomes more widespread. The media is bombarding us with a feel good story about a man by the name of Ted Williams. He has been homeless for quite some time as he struggled with drug and alcohol addictions, as well as legal problems. That is not all that unusual when you stop and consider the large number of people living on the streets and learn about their individual stories. Often you will find that there is a dependency on either drugs or alcohol, or even possibly a mental illness that often goes untreated. With the economic disasters of the last decade, there are more people out on the street because they have been uprooted by a sudden change in their finances. Military veterans often struggle with a return to civilian life and end up homeless. Runaways also can end up homeless after they have run through the willingness of their friends and family to allow them to couch surf for a period of time. Still, people become homeless for a variety of reasons and it doesn’t have to be permanent. People living on the street can also become a victim of violence or intimidation. Homelessness can be a reaction to a temporary situation in a person’s life. Homeless does not have to mean a hopeless situation. When are people going to wake up to the fact that we need to stop allowing instances of evil and violence to be glorified on television, movies, books and in our music? Isn’t it obvious that the world has been turning this garbage into “entertainment” and that it is having a terrible influence on our society? Today there was two distinctive situations that destroyed lives that is shockingly cruel in the fact that the victims of violence were totally innocent.
A nursing home in Carthage, North Carolina has 8 dead people , 7 residents and a nurse, because a young man came into the nursing home and started shooting at people. The reason is unclear at this point. It is alleged that his estranged wife works at this nursing home although that is not confirmed. An unprovoked attack on innocent people that would have been much worse had it not been for the heroic actions of a 25 year old police officer who was able to stop the shooter. While the news media covers these terrible bursts of violence…we must learn to carefully balance how these things are addressed in the media; so that they do not become gloried examples for those with similar thoughts.
Another equally upsetting situation; an ex-con attacks his sisters and kills two of them…one a five year old child on her birthday. He kills his 17 year old sister by brutally stabbing her…then, he goes after the five year old and decapitates her as the police come in. She is found near her birthday cake. The nine year old sister had called the officers…some how she was stabbed as well; she is in the hospital with injuries. Not only has she been injured, she lost members of her family and she has to live with the images of death and violence. This brother was clearly a person out of control; it was alleged that he had some kind of a run-in with a neighbor the evening before as well.
We have people who dont know how to resolve their personal problems…committing violence and killing innocent people. We have loners, and mentally ill people who do not get treatment. Our economy is so tight that those who desperately need mental health treatment do not get it because of cost. We need to seriously consider spending more money for preventative well-care programs for people at risk for such behaviors.
I would really like to see people stop supporting slasher/shoot them up shows and movies with their dollars. These type of entertainments only serve to encourage those who are bent on venting their anger and revenge or for those who are mentally unstable on taking out their rage on innocent people. How do you protect yourself and your loved ones from random violence? It is impossible. Is anyone else sick and tired of these things happening in schools, shopping malls, nursing homes and colleges, etc?

Breaking news today at the hearing for Bernie Madoff, financial investor; Bernie has plead guilty to all of the charges against him in one of the largest investigations ever into a Ponzi scheme which ripped off both celebrities and everyday people alike. Madoff has admitted that he knowingly took money and mis-handled it and lied about it under oath; while actively hiding his activities.
Bernie Madoff made statements to the court that he is sorry, ashamed and acknowledges that he has hurt many people; he admitted his guilt. Those statements are some of the biggest understatements ever made. There are those who have lost their life savings, some who have allegedly committed suicide over their financial situations, others who have need of medical interventions that could save their lives…but now, cannot afford to have done, people who can’t afford to pay their rent/mortgages because of the deliberate actions of Mr. Madoff. This subject is never a pleasant one. No one likes to acknowledge domestic abuse is a way of life…especially if it is happening within their own life. Unfortunately, domestic abuse happens every day in a multitude of ways. It doesn’t just happen in the lives of the poor, the rich, or the celebrity world; even though, that is often the stories that we hear about…those who are famous. We must awaken to the facts of domestic abuse; it is often learned behaviors that are used to control another person…either with intimidation, physical violence, emotional abuse or sexual abuse.
Domestic abuse is like cancer…it is constantly trying to destroy the people involved. It is a pattern of behavior that affect both the abuser and the person being abused. Many who are being abused do not recognize that what is happening in their lives is actually domestic abuse. The reasons for their lack of understanding, or denial are many. (more…)
