Donny and Marie Osmond were taping a show with comedian Bonnie Hunt when she asked him if he ever considered following Marie on Dancing With The Stars.  Donny grinned and said that he was seriously considering it and then he said, I guess I let the cat out of the bag.  That sounds like a confirmation to me…although, I dont think the contestants have been formally announced for this upcoming season of Dancing With The Stars.

I dont know how ABC will feel about the premature announcement…but if it is true that he will be on Dancing With The Stars…then I think it will be a fun season.  Remember that Donny sort of did some impromptu interviews behind the scenes when Marie was on.

Marie is famous for her witty sense of humor and her ability to razz her brother…all with the trademark Osmond grin.  It will be fun to watch that competitive nature come out between brother and sister.   Not to mention, it gets me wondering who else will be competing against Donny.   Also, wonder who will be Donny’s dancing partner…which pro?  Julianne Hough won’t be back this season last that I heard…so it will be interesting to see this season’s premiere.  Best of Luck Donny ( I am sure Marie will say that you are going to need it!  >wink< >wink<)

Update:  Donny has c0rrected the impression that he gave that he would be on the upcoming season.  He says, he plans or is shooting to be on the fall season of DWTS.

Parting is such sweet sorrow…and I know this to be true.  Today, I lost Bessie.  We weren’t together long enough.  I had only known her for about 5-6 years.  Long enough to appreciate her…long enough to know all of her faults and her good features.  We were pretty much inseperable for most of this last year and a half.  I am grieving the loss of her.

Oh to be sure, Bessie could be tempermental…but, hey so can I when the mood strikes.   We were only apart for a couple of weeks last year due to a very strong virus.  It almost took Bessie from me this past summer.  We were lucky…she was able to bounce back.  I grieved the loss of her then too…but, i was lucky and got to have a little more time with her.  I don’t think I will be so lucky this time.

After I posted to my blog early this morning…Bessie made a most unlady-like , violent popping sound and then she was gone…without any warning…no goodbye…see ya later.  Nothing!  She was  most silent; not as in a temporary silent treatment either.  One moment she was there, vibrant and alive…the next minute…my beloved computer was no longer with me.  I was left alone with my thoughts.

Last time…the computer doc was able to rescitate her and bring her back to her full glory.  This sound that she made, sounded most ominous.  I don’t know if she has any more life left in her.  She will take so many pieces of me with her if she is truly gone.   The writings, the pictures, the look and the feel of her keyboard..Oh Lord, the files; this could be very traumatic.   Ahhhh….I am most blue.

I am sending these greetings to you via my husband’s lap-top.  I don’t like driving another person’s vehicle and i most definately don’t like writing on another person’s computer.  If only i was independently wealthy….then, i would deck myself out with the top of the line…super streamlined…computer that would hum beneath my fingers and spill out all that I hold dear, to you my friends and readers.

Still, until there is no hope of breathing new life into Bessie…i will have to do the best that i can to communicate on this laptop.  It will be quite some time before i can afford to break in a new computer who will work with me and not mind my lack of technical skills.  If you don’t mind…send a few prayers Bessie’s way.  She could use a little help from above,  just like most of us!!!

Sarah Palin will be making an appearance tonight on Saturday Night Live.  This is a show to watch as the talented Tina Fey has been impersonating her on the show for a few weeks.  I think they will have worked out a wonderful skit. It will be interesting to see Sarah’s sense of humor shine through; with all of this campaigning…things have been a bit tough on her image.  Will it help Sarah’s image or will it further the impression that Tina Fey has been putting out there for the masses to mock?  Rest assured the appearance will be plastered all over the political programs on Sunday morning and on the news programs…no matter which way things go on SNL.

In the beginning of the Presidential candidate’s campaigns…people talked about the Oprah factor…the last few weeks it has been about the impact of Tina Fey’s charaterization of Sarah Palin.  Will this chapter of the campaign trail positively or negatively impact the outcome of the election?  Time will tell…i plan to stay up and watch. How about you?

Comedian Bill Maher appears to have made it a footnote of his career to openly show his contempt for religion; his comedy routines have had a biting edge to many topics pertaining to faith.  He has now made a movie about that very subject… it is a movie that expresses his thoughts that religious beliefs are dangerous and ridiculous.  The movie which is opening in theaters on Friday is called, Religulous.  Bill Maher hopes to open up conversations where others feel comfortable expressing their disbelief, as well as making the viewers laugh.  I am sure he wouldn’t mind making a buck or two off of the whole enterprise either!

In my mind, religion is not a laughing matter.  Whenever i have watched Bill Maher perform on television, in years past…i was stunned to hear the barely controlled contempt, whenever he would subject the viewers to his views on religion.  I don’t think anything is so terrible about people having differing viewpoints on the subject of religion…but, i do think it is wrong for someone to mock another for their personal religious beliefs.  I think it comes down to a matter of respect.  At the very least, you can agree to disagree without turning to put downs or insults.

Out of fairness, Bill Maher did allegedly make an attempt to be an equal opportunity offender to all religions in the movie.  He mocks Christianity, Judaism, and Islam allegedly in the movie.  Other religions would have presumably gotten the same treatment if it had not cost so much to do the additional traveling.  After all, there are many different religions around the world and the world is a very big place.

I will agree with Bill Maher on one thing…religion can be dangerous for those who mock; or are in some way, regarded as a threat to those who hold radical religious viewpoints.  Religions are made up of many different people.   Those people are a microcosm of all areas of society; and, in each of those areas of humanity, there are people who will brook no difference of viewpoint from their personal value system.

Respectful individuals will try to discuss their beliefs with one another when there is a difference of opinion trying to persuade the other person with theological discourse on the subject.    Serious repercussions begin to take shape when you think about someone with a mental illness who feels the need to defend their religion.  In that situation, you could potentially have a recipe for disaster.  There are other individuals who will go to any extreme, including terrorism, to make their religious views known to others.  There are elements in any society, of religious extremism.  One must take care to respect each other’s right to believe differently if that person has hope of being treated with respect themselves…even, their right to not believe at all.

Quite a few years ago, there was a huge threat directed towards a man named Salman Rushdie.   He is an author that wrote a book that offended some Muslims, called The Satanic Verses in 1988.  Some  protested his book, and there were many threats upon his life because of the content in the book.  He was forced to live in hiding for quite a period of time.

In making a film on the subject of mocking multiple religions, i think that Bill Maher has provided an irresponsible and inflammatory situation which could draw radical attention towards his movie.  If and when it causes conflict, then he can stand back as a witness to the “crazy and dangerous” effect of religion upon society.  I wish that Mr. Maher had found a different way to express himself and his viewpoint on religion; instead of, filming a movie which could negatively impact so many people.  It is quite an easy thing to incite people when they feel that their core values are under attack.  It will surprise me greatly if you dont see protests regarding this movie, all over the news.

I’ve noticed that there are other comedians who often take hostile swipes at things pertaining to religious subjects.  I remember hearing about Kathy Griffen at some awards ceremony or another, saying something to the effect that, Jesus had nothing to do with her success.  Another comedian who comes across as offensive, to me at least, on the subject is Jimmy Kimmel.  I think there is a fine line between love and hate…and religion brings that line into focus.  Part of the dual edged sword of celebrity is that you have a platform to sway public opinion…but you also bear a personal responsibility in what you put out there when you do espouse a certain opinion.

One has to wonder, where all of the anger and hostility comes from.  I have heard that anger issues are the opposite side of the coin when it comes to comedians…they take their anger and use humor as a tool to get their message across to the audience.  Humor can often take a sour slant on a subject and make it more palatable to the masses because it is put in a way that people find a little easier to listen to.  But, just because something can be made into a punch line, doesn’t mean that it should be.   Anger seems like such a waste of energy.   When you have a talent for making people laugh, it seems that it could be better used for something more positive than spreading hostile rhetoric used to offend others.

Ben Stiller, the talented and funny actor has a new movie coming out; it is called Tropic Thunder.  It is a movie he was instrumental in producing, by doing the writing and directing, among other things.  There is a boycott brewing by special needs advocacy groups because of a movie within the movie.  The movie is supposed to be a mocking satire of actors who will take any movie no matter how over the top or bizarre to make a name for themselves as an actor, without regard for the subject matter.

Is this something that is supposed to be funny?  The lower our standards of conduct go…the funnier it is supposed to be…is that the concept?  Instead of getting kudos by the industry for a financial success…there should be a call to accountability; demanded by the American public for standards of decency.  Controvery about the subject matter should not just be just a tool used by public relations departments to garner curiosity that translates to box office rewards; that is my opinion.

One of the movies within the movie called, Simple Jack, allegedly mocks and makes fun of people with disabilities.   Meetings with advocacy group leaders were held with Stacey Snider who is a chief executive at Dreamworks…the company that released the film to try to address the concerns about the movie.  The studio has refused to make changes to the movie.  Shame on them!  Their attempts at humor just aren’t funny when the laughs are at the expense of a population of people born with disabilities.  Where is the respect?  (more…)

I have to admit…I felt a bit lonely this week…my brave and courageous companion of the last four years had to leave me temporarily.  She really has gone with me places that no-one else would care to go.  I felt a bit guilty as I hooked up with another, knowing all along that i was using another to meet my selfish needs while she was gone; but, that is what happens when your computer gets an attitude and needs an attitude adjustment.

You see, the old gal was starting to have a mind of her own.  Whenever I would tell her to go one place she had to show me who was boss.   You see, I can admit it…she is a bit smarter than I am…she just has so much knowledge packed in her brain.  However, I have strongly suspected for the last few months that my computer was struggling with the electronic equivilant of ADD…attention deficit disorder…I couldn’t keep her attention.  She would start to be distracted, by each and every commercial pop up available.

Now, I can stand a bit of competition now and again…but, it was getting to the point to where she just couldn’t keep her wandering eyes on me, and my wants and needs.  That was just unacceptable to me…something had to be done.  I confronted her with my suspicions…I did a bit of research and ran a background check…sure enough…she was infected with a virus.  I am not immune to such things and obviously, she had gone out and picked up something that i did not care to have.           I don’t know about any of you…but, the pictures of Heath Ledger as The Dark Knight creep me out.  I remember the days of the old Batman series and the joker was funny and mischievous.  With the release date of July 18th, The Dark Knight, which is the latest release in the trail of Batman movies…I feel a bit disturbed.        It is hard to make people laugh when they are mad at you.  Joan Rivers is a very funny woman…she is gifted with her timing and her observations on things that amuse folks…but, what Joan does do that just isn’t funny, is cuss.  Over the years it has become a mainstay of her routines to insult people, curse, or she uses the “B” word to address people in place of their name.  It isn’t funny; and, you would think that someone who was 75 years of age would realize that by now.

Joan was on a talk show during in Britain when she cursed about a guest host; Russell Crowell, the movie star.  She allegedly said that she thought that her language could be beeped out; but to me that is just disrespectful of her audience.  She did apologize; however, she was asked to leave during a break in the show.

It just seems to me that an entertainer of her skill could be a little more appropriate in her public appearances.  I think comedians like to do shock comedy…but, to me it is a cheap way to get a laugh…as i said..with her experience and skill; Joan Rivers is capable of so much more than she gives; when , she resorts to those kinds of cheap laughs.
