If you haven’t heard the news yet, it appears that NY Democratic representative Anthony Weiner is caught up in a social media scandal that has caused great controversy.  In the beginning he said, that risque photos posted in the public time-line of his Twitter account was the work of a hacker. However, it has since been disclosed by Anthony Weiner that the photos were of himself and that he posted them to women that he “met” in his online relationships.

He’s stated that he has not met them in real life.  His credibility is being called into question because of the lies he initially told regarding the scandal.  His judgment is part of that controversy in regards to his career. Many people are wondering whether someone who would lie to his constituents, his family, his friends, and the media could do his job with honesty and integrity.          Last Thursday, the McCain campaign decided to stop aggressively campaigning in Michigan.  This is a mistake, as Sarah Palin at least recognizes.  She has expressed a desire to come back to Michigan to continue campaigning.  I say to you Senator McCain…Michigan Matters!!!  Do not give up on Michigan.

The voter’s in Michigan can make a big difference in this Presidential campaign; every vote counts!  Remember the fierce contest between Bush and Gore?  Please respect the voters who haven’t made up their minds by understanding that many of them are on the fence; give them a reason to support your team.  For those who choose to support Obama-Biden…it gives them an unfair advantage to influence the voters; who may feel abandoned by half of the Presidential nominees.

We are a unique state, in a lot of ways.  We are also mavericks.  We have overcome alot.  Many of us, those who have continued to stay in Michigan despite the economic difficulties, are strong willed.  We have been overlooked in the primaries…our votes were cut in half.  Do you think that is ok with us?  No!  Now we are being told that you aren’t thinking that we are worth your time to campaign here; because, some stupid polls are saying that Obama is ahead in numbers?  Come on…give us some credit for making our own decisions politically.  Polls don’t always transition to winning votes when push comes to shove.  Your decision to exclude Michigan from further campaigning is going to carry some serious impact on the outcome of the election.  Every votes counts…are you willing to gamble with the votes that you have already gained by ignorning those who haven’t made up their minds?

With your history of heroic action in the military…i didn’t figure you for a quitter.  What if your country had given up on you?   Your running mate doesn’t appear to give up easily!  If you trust her decision making ability, you will reconsider the decision to stop campaigning in Michigan.  I say to you…when things look the bleakest…that is when the most amazing things happen; things miraculous!

Take a stand, send Sarah; matter of a fact… come back yourself.  Even the runt of a litter that gets picked rewards it’s caretaker with loyalty.  This state has a history of turning things around…we’ve done it before…and, we are going to do it again.  We have gone through difficulties with businesses closing up and moving out of state or, out of country; we have had the automobile industry take some hard hits…we have struggled to survive.  We are going to be on the forefront of the alternative energy field…we are going to turn the economic predictions for Michigan on it’s head.

We don’t forget those that stick by us.   Maybe it is time to remind you that Detroit, one of the biggest cities in Michigan, has been RECENTLY scandalized by Detroit’s former mayor, DEMOCRAT Kwame Kilpatrick and his behavior.   We want a candidate for President who respects the citizens of this nation and has their best interest at heart.  Is that candidate you?

Michigan remembers the bullying tactics that Kilpatrick’s team allegedly used to try to stay in power…Republicans could use that behavior in their favor; as they try to win this state in the Presidential election.  Come on, refocus on the voters in Michigan that have been feeling neglected, abused and in-validated over the last year, in the tug of war for votes.  It is time to remind the world that Republicans understand that, every vote counts!

There is a grass roots effort to get 100,000 signatures on a petition to bring the McCain-Palin campaign back to michigan here: www.fightformichigan.com  Make your voice heard!  If you only hear once side of an argument (or campaign) how do you think that will influence the outcome?  There is another organization that is going to try to express the opposition to the Obama-Biden campaign message www.ourcountrydeservesbetter.com by spending up to $500,000 on advertising a Stop Obama campaign.  People can’t make informed choices if they are only given one choice…all we ask is give us options in our choosing!

Under growing pressure, in a case that seems to continue to go from bad to worse…Detroit’s Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, was back in court on Friday.  He was answering to the judge about claims of aggression towards a detective, who was trying to serve a subpoena for some of the hearings relating to the perjury charges; that the Mayor is facing.  The investigation continues to reveal scandulous behavior relating to the conduct of the Mayor of Detroit.  The perjury and obstruction of justice charges are alledged over text messages to his former top aide, Christine Beatty regarding their personal relationship.        Backstabbing, betrayal, lies, manipulation, scandal; is this a new episode of Desperate Housewives?  No, it is the political process of choosing a democratic front runner.  In the un-precedented, history making presidental election to come… no matter who  finally becomes the front runner for the Democratic party; it will have been controversial, to say the least.

Whether Sen. Barack Obama becomes the first african american Democratic nominee or Sen. Hillary Clinton becomes the first woman to get the nod…it is history making.  The problem is, of course, that by competing against each other for the position; they are being accused of ripping the primary process apart, by not allowing the Democrats to unite behind one, or the other, of them.

Today a high ranking man, in this process, Joe Andrew, the former chair of the Indiana Democratic Party is supposedly going to announce that he is throwing the weight of his support behind Sen. Barack Obama in an effort to induce other superdelegates to unite behind his campaign.  He feels that this primary process is dividing the Democrats; to the point where, it is giving the Republicans the edge for John McCain.  This is where some feel that betrayal is taking place, since it was president Bill Clinton who appointed Joe Andrew as the youngest chair to the Democratic National Committee back in 1999.

Betrayal and judgement have also been at the top of the news headlines when it comes to the candidates as well.  Sen. Barack Obama’s judgement has been called into question because of his relationship with his long time pastor Rev. Wright.  The Reverend has become a weighted stone for Sen. Obama’s candidacy, because of some of his viewpoints regarding race and political hot topics.  Some have even questioned the Reverend’s motivations for speaking such controversial statements during this process.  Does he want Obama to win…and if he does…why has he been saying such contemptible things, causing Sen. Obama to distance himself?  The political Judas syndrome has kicked into high gear.

Sen. Hillary Clinton was thrust into the glare of the media recently because of statements she made regarding her memories of certain events.  Her credibility was called into question, when some of those statements were proven to differ from video clips and other people’s memories of the same events.

Dirty laundry has been aired though out this process by behind the scenes manipulations, untruths, personal betrayals, backstabbing, and race and gender discussions.  All in all, a typical day in the life of a politician; however, the cost to this country in the event of the wrong person becoming president of the United States, should be enough reason to clean it all up and get down to the business of choosing the best person for the job.  It is an awesome priviledge and responsibility to do the choosing!

For the last few months…the party girls of the celebrity world have been toning it down.  When everything was so very out of control on the scandal sheets, regarding  Britney Spears, Lindsey Lohan, Paris Hilton and other’s; the papers started focussing on those with the good girl, role model image.

It seemed that they couldn’t wait to build them up; and, slyly they WONDERED IF MILEY CYRUS, and others like her, wouldn’t also soon be on the same path to self destruction.  Their headlines screamed a false concern about the future of those in the limelight; would they too end up on drugs/alcohol/addicted to sex, and the partying lifestyle?  Please, it is just a ploy to sell newspapers!

Then last year, when Jaime Lynn Spears announced her pre-marital pregnancy…it was almost with glee, that they had another poster girl to shine the light on.  Now that Jaime Lynn has pulled back out of the glare of the press…Miley Cyrus has been moved to the front of the line for the tick tock of the self- destruction time bomb that the tabloid rags have been trying to promote.

Last week, there were some photos put online that show Miley in her underwear.  She has apologized for those “inappropriate photos”.  Then today, there were some pictures taken by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, for the equally famous magazine Vanity Fair, which Miley says, she thought were going to be “artistic” shots.  Even if they would have been purely “artistic” shots….why should a 15 year old be allowed to put it out there for public viewing?  Bad decision…someone should have put an end to the idea before it became reality.  Teens don’t always want to hear advice about what is right and wrong…but, still someone should have pointed out that this was a really, really, bad idea!

Hello, where were her advisors, the ones from her family or from her show, to guide and protect a barely 15 year old girl from making such a mistake?  Was there no contract that gave her creative control over which pictures would be used; thereby, saving her from what she has allegedly described as “embarassment” over these latest pictures?  I have only seen one…and that picture shows her wrapped in a sheet with a bare back.  If a regular person took this kind of “artistic” shots…because of her age…it could be considered objectionable or suspicious by law enforcement.

Who in their right mind would promote a 15 year old girl in such photos for a magazine?  What kind of message is that sending?  I mean come on…”artistic” is one thing…but, this is not an adult woman.  I think that there are some adults involved here who could have used better judgement.

I know that Miley Cyrus has been upfront about her faith guiding her footsteps. These types of decisions will not only hurt her professionally, but, it can also damage her testimony as a Christian.   No, she is not perfect…none of us are.  We expect her to make mistakes as she grows up just like the rest of us have; however, eyes are watching her.

However, because she is NOT an adult…it would be wise if her management would make sure that she is better protected from those in the industry who would take advantage of her fame. If her advisors put their stamp of approval on this project…then maybe they need replacing.    After all, they allegedly allowed her to be put in this position by making an error in judgement regarding these photos.

I don’t know about you…but, i think it was rude of the person who asked Chelsea Clinton whether she felt that the whole issue of Monica Lewinski hurts her mother’s credibility.

How many of us are, or would like to be, responsible for publicly critiquing our family member’s choices in life?  We as children, adult or not, are NOT responsible for accounting for our parent’s successes or failures.   It wasn’t a question that was appropriately asked of the right person.  Why not ask it of Bill Clinton or Hillary herself?

If the person asking the question truly believes that the scandal of years past hurts the credibility of Senator Clinton, then so be it; ask the question of Senator Clinton or her husband.  I believe it crosses the line of appropriate behavior.

I am not taking sides in the issue of who should; or, who should not be the democratic candidate running for president.  What i am saying is that it wasn’t a valid question for Chelsea to be asked.

First of all, no matter how Chelsea truly processes that whole painful part of her family history and the history of our country in regards to how she lives her day to day life …i think the fact that she is out there supporting her mother says what she thinks about whether her mother is credible.

Say what you will about whether Senator Clinton should or should not drop out of the race…but, i think that Chelsea handled herself gracefully in the way that she responded to the questioner.

She took a large uncomfortable pause and then said…”I don’t think that that is any of your business”…and then proceeded to say…”I also don’t think that should be the last question”.  That, is grace under pressure.  I am sure should would have much rather let that person have it verbally…but she rose above it.

Standing in the line at my local Walmart today i saw a headline screaming out at me about a scandal involving Drew Lachey and Cheryl Burke of Dancing With The Stars fame.

Supposedly, the two of them had an affair during their time on the show.  I didn’t read the article…but, later tonight i read online that they are being accused by some as having an affair.

I don’t know about you…but i don’t believe it.  I would be shocked if it turned out to be true.  I remember, Drew’s wife was expecting a baby during that season and she was there alot.   She was at many of the dancing practice sessions as well as the performances.

It seems to me that she would have had a close up view on how they acted towards one another.    His wife is also a talented and successful dance choreographer herself; so she is aware of how two people appropriately act towards each other when they practice dancing.

I highly doubt that she would have been as supportive of  Drew and the show, if she suspected any such rumor as being true, either then or now!  Remember, this was almost two years ago…she would have had plenty of opportunity to sense whether anything inappropriate has been going on during this time.

I just think sometimes, people look for reasons to splash the latest rumour or hurtful thing to sell newspapers or magazines.  It seems that the beautiful, Miss Cheryl Burke recently broke up with the boyfriend from that time period…so who knows…who is behind the rumors; and, what the goal is by spreading such innuendo.  For the record, i believe they have both denied any such affair.

I remember as a teenager being told by my “elders” that the older  I would get, the faster it would seem like “Life was Flying By”.  Well, i hate to admit it but they were right.

It seems like things are just moving so fast and there is so little time that it is a little bit creepy.  Things that are big news items one day, are not even remembered the next day because there are so many other items that are bigger, better, splashier and more exploitable each and every, new day.

The other day i wrote here about the spy satellite with the poisionous gas that is about to enter the earth’s atmophere.  The US military plans to shoot it down this week.  They were waiting for the space shuttle to land before attempting to eliminate the threat that the satellite poses to the earth’s population.

The shuttle is scheduled to land tomorrow.  This is good, they will not be in firing range.  What i can’t believe is that no one is hyping the threats posed from the satellite.  No, no…the news is covered in things like Lindsey Lohan’s re-creation of a photo shoot that Marilyn Monroe shot way back in the 60’s.  Who could get through the day without having that little morsel pasted into their memory banks?

Scandal is the name of the game.  Lord knows, if the people of earth could be in danger from the satellite….well…they must be up-to-date on the latest and greatest scandal in the news such as which particular baseball hero of the day used steriods or not, or whether Britney Spear’s dad is out on the partying circuit with Britney’s hangers on crowd, or perhaps, if a famous boxer really does dress up in fish net stockings in his private time!  These are important issues of today are they not?

I mean who needs to know if there is some unknown government official who could be passing inspections of meat that goes into our school children’s school lunch programs, or the whole reason Fidel Castro is giving up his historical rein of power in Cuba, or how to put an end to all of these public, mass shootings, or why the economy in the US is on the verge of collapse between the mortgage nightmares…the high cost of gas and oil…the bondage of individuals and families who are ensared in a credit card debt web that they will never get out of without filing for bankruptsy…or, how to stop the exporting of jobs to other countries who can afford to pay their workers much less than US employees?

We each are “gifted” with such a short time here on earth that we really have to make the most of each and every day.  There is a constant demand for our attention with radio, television, newspapers and cell phones and computers…there isn’t a moment to just stop and realize how much time is wasted on things that really have no major importance.

For each scandal that comes and goes…yes, the consequences are important.  To the people that it directly involves.

We have become a nation of observers of other people’s pain and misery.  When did it become a spectator sport?  If we invest time and energy to watch it…are we not morally challenged to do something about those very situations?  At the very least to pray or send good thoughts and wishes in those directions?

Every moment of everyday…there are tragedies happening around us both in big and small ways.  There are wars, there are diseases, there are accidents, there are injustices, there are crimes of violence passed among our communities, deaths, and the list goes on.  Let us challenge ourselves not to get caught up in things that we can do nothing about.

If we were to focus our time and attention on reaching out to those around us and make a choice to improve our little corners of the world and make it a better place for those we meet everyday maybe “life wouldn’t fly by” so fast.

Helping those struggling around us often doesn’t take boat loads of money…sometimes it just takes a listening ear, or a sacrifice of a little of our time, or energy.

If we can wrap our minds around the concept of “spending time”/ in other words, using up what time we have alloted to us in our lives; maybe there would be a whole lot less people willing to “waste time” doing things that are un-important; or worse, damaging to ourselves and to the others around us.

We each have valuable talents and skills.  It is easy to get caught up in feeling depressed, sad, lost, lonely, or angry.  All of those emotions are negative and they snowball into negative actions.  Refocus and dig deep to find one positive thing to put your energy into.

Today it is easier than ever to get involved in positive things.  We can connect to others easily.  Find a group or organization to use what talents or skills you have.   Find a need and fill it, look for opportunities.   Be a role model to those around you.  Get involved in positive things and you will be amazed at how much happier you are.
