Terrible news is breaking at the moment of a woman who was involved in the Washington DC prostitution ring..she was convicted of federal charges recently.  She swore that she would not go back to prison…not for even one day. Deborah must have been terribly fearful and desperate.   She had already served time for prostitution related charges back in the nineties.  You have to wonder why would she risk doing the very thing that sent her to prison in the first place if she was desperate to avoid repeating such a consequence?

She was going to be sentenced in July.  How horrible for her elderly mother, who was the person who found her.  That is a terrible thing to do to someone who brought you into the world.   Deborah hung herself in a shed near her mother’s home.  There were letters found that revealed Deborah’s  apparent intention to commit suicide.  I don’t think too much of what was written, has been revealed just yet.  I am sure more details will eventually be released.  It is just a shame…a waste of life.

Quite often you hear people say that prostitution is a victimless crime…I wonder how Deborah’s alledged clients are feeling at this moment?   Some of them are very powerful people in the Washington DC area.  There were politicians, and others who were involved in obtaining the services that Ms. Palfrey business provided…will they be charged with a crime as well?

While the rest of us have not been keeping track of the days…Madeline’s parents have.  It seems the whole world was mad about Madeline and was doing their best to find her.   Madeline McCann disappeared about a year ago in Portugal.  Madeline was three years old at that time; her family was on vacation. To this day, Madeline is still missing.  There are more questions than answers about what happened to her and if she will ever be found.  Keeping her story in the media is helping people to remember that a little girl is out there somewhere waiting to be found.

Madeline’s parents were made the targets of suspicion by the authorities and the media,  when it was made known to the public that they left 3 year old Madeline and her brother Sean alone in their hotel room while they went to dinner.  It was a terrible decision and many are fearful of what has happened to Maddy.  The parents were villified for making such a horrible error in judgement.  Madeline disappeared and no one knows what has happened to the beautiful little girl.  The parents have vigorously denied that they had anything to do with her disappearance.  I am sure they have relieved that day and night over and over wishing that they could change what happened.

This friday, there will be an interview on 20/20 on ABC with Madeline’s parents at 10 pm.  I will be watching.  I can’t imagine the heartache they are going through.  Some judge the parents harshly…i would suspect not as harshly as they judge themselves each day as they long for Madeline’s return.  It is the hope of many that Madeline will be found soon.

It seemed for a time that everyone was Mad About Madeline…there were supposed sightings everywhere.  If only someone were to actually find her; what joy that would bring.  In the meantime, Madeline’s parents have been trying to fight for a system to be established in Europe for an Amber Alert.  This would greatly improve the chances of someone trying to find a lost child in an area of the world where people cross boarders from one country into another and disappear quite easily.

Backstabbing, betrayal, lies, manipulation, scandal; is this a new episode of Desperate Housewives?  No, it is the political process of choosing a democratic front runner.  In the un-precedented, history making presidental election to come… no matter who  finally becomes the front runner for the Democratic party; it will have been controversial, to say the least.

Whether Sen. Barack Obama becomes the first african american Democratic nominee or Sen. Hillary Clinton becomes the first woman to get the nod…it is history making.  The problem is, of course, that by competing against each other for the position; they are being accused of ripping the primary process apart, by not allowing the Democrats to unite behind one, or the other, of them.

Today a high ranking man, in this process, Joe Andrew, the former chair of the Indiana Democratic Party is supposedly going to announce that he is throwing the weight of his support behind Sen. Barack Obama in an effort to induce other superdelegates to unite behind his campaign.  He feels that this primary process is dividing the Democrats; to the point where, it is giving the Republicans the edge for John McCain.  This is where some feel that betrayal is taking place, since it was president Bill Clinton who appointed Joe Andrew as the youngest chair to the Democratic National Committee back in 1999.

Betrayal and judgement have also been at the top of the news headlines when it comes to the candidates as well.  Sen. Barack Obama’s judgement has been called into question because of his relationship with his long time pastor Rev. Wright.  The Reverend has become a weighted stone for Sen. Obama’s candidacy, because of some of his viewpoints regarding race and political hot topics.  Some have even questioned the Reverend’s motivations for speaking such controversial statements during this process.  Does he want Obama to win…and if he does…why has he been saying such contemptible things, causing Sen. Obama to distance himself?  The political Judas syndrome has kicked into high gear.

Sen. Hillary Clinton was thrust into the glare of the media recently because of statements she made regarding her memories of certain events.  Her credibility was called into question, when some of those statements were proven to differ from video clips and other people’s memories of the same events.

Dirty laundry has been aired though out this process by behind the scenes manipulations, untruths, personal betrayals, backstabbing, and race and gender discussions.  All in all, a typical day in the life of a politician; however, the cost to this country in the event of the wrong person becoming president of the United States, should be enough reason to clean it all up and get down to the business of choosing the best person for the job.  It is an awesome priviledge and responsibility to do the choosing!
