So today was a great day. After a very long, work filled week; we took a family day. We went out for a ride to another local town. We went to lunch and then as a family we went shopping. My hubby found something that he has said he wanted for years. We splurged on ourselves for once…not something we often do.
The thing that has often been a subject of my husband’s desire? Well, it was a down filled mattress topper. That was a bit pricey…but hey, he has wanted one for years…and since we can’t afford a new bed…this was the next best thing.
He works hard. He puts in long hours and many nights doesn’t get more than 4 or 5 hours of sleep a night. He needs to get a few more hours…and hopefully, soon that will not be a problem. However, with our bed being old and kind of conforming to the various hills and valleys on our bodies…it is no longer comfortable. It is hard to get a good nights sleep. We thought we would take a gamble.
When we walked out of the small town you want it, we got it, department store hubby looks at the crumpled up receipt and said aloud, something must have been on sale (we bought other items as well). His face broke into a big, sunshinny grin as he said,… the soft, white, downy mattress topper was half price, half price, i said! Now this was some firecracking, fourth of july news to the both of us. With that being the case, we went out to another big box type store and promptly splurged again. We bought new, squishy pillows and an alternative down filled comforter to go with the plush mattress topper.
Hubby travels a bit for his business and often gets the luxurious treatment at the hotels he stays at; for the seminars he attends. He comes home filled with tales of extreme appreciation of the bedding, in some of these hotels. He would describe the experience so well….I was getting hotel bed envy! Hahaha. Well, let me tell you…together we put the new, vinyl smelling bedding (from the packaging), on the bed. I wasn’t about to miss this for anything.
With a chesire grin…he climbed on to the bed after lovingly pulling back the comforter and the cocoa colored flat sheet. He folded them back and looked at me as he reverently slipped between the sheets. He closed his eyes and made a sound that was nothing but pure contentment. He flipped open one eye and patted the other side of the bed waiting for me to join him. He said, admit it…isn’t this the life? LOL I have never seen him enjoy a material thing more than this…hahaha. Well worth the spending spree to see him truly relaxing and enjoying himself laying there. 🙂
He pulled me over and together we snuggled for a millisecond while our children stood in the doorway laughing at us. We had to convince them that our room was not entertainment central and climbing into our bed was not a group activity.
Now the only trouble is going to be motivating ourselves to climb out of bed in the mornings to go off to work and start the day without counting the minutes until we get to get back in bed in comfort. We are blessed.
